Synopsis: Fang Yi Shao is an orphan girl who is a talented chef, but unwittingly gets forced to marry infamous young master Shen Yong as a substitute bride. Coincidentally, Shen Yong had inadvertently saved her from being kidnapped before, becoming her savior. With her culinary and martial arts skills, she wins the hearts of her in-laws and eventually Shen Yong himself. Yi Shao strongly believes in Shen Yong’s good nature, contrary to rumors. Under her influence, Shen Yong changes his wayward ways to make a name for himself in this heartwarming and comedic story.   3. Happy to have a few more morsels of Chef Fang storytelling. A mouthful of comedy, sprinkling of budding romance, a few tablespoons of cookery show and then some chunks of mystery thrown in for good measure … quite a potluck of story elements. Not that I am complaining, it satisfies my appetite for light entertainment.

    Not sure why but this show manages to sidetrack me on irrelevant historic culinary background details, it seems that smoked tofu was only mentioned in literature in 1911, the internet is such a wonderful thing, there is a website “soyinfocenter” that has 7 pages of history on tofu, in case anybody has time to read up on such things.

    I would happily put together a stir fry of thank-yous, well-wishes, deep-bows and hand-claps to acknowledge your hard work in subbing.

    1. Hi thanks for the info! Yes that’s true although in the book the female lead actually time traveled from modern times to the past so I guess they forgot to take out those dishes from the book 🙂 In fact some of the dishes mentioned in the drama are quite modern anyway such as the prawn ball cantaloupe dish in the 2nd/ 3rd ep.

  4. Isn’t garlic forbidden in vegetarian dishes made for temples? Was waiting since last episode for her cooking on vegetarian dishes.

    1. Yes onions and garlic are not added to food offered to buddhist monks/ nuns due to the odor it emits and the fact that they stimulate the nervous system. I’m not sure but they might be offering the food to the poor which may be why she cooked food with garlic in. It doesn’t explicitly explain in the drama who they were offering the food to.
