Synopsis: Song Yu Die (Zheng Shuang) is a renowned chef in Hangzhou city with a mysterious identity. She grew up learning how to cook from her adopted mother who is also a brilliant chef and the owner of the famous restaurant Tianxiang restaurant. Her sweetheart Li Ma (Ray Ma) is the adopted son of her mother and she knows that they will marry when they grow up. However things change when she encounters Prince Zhao Yuan Qing and Li Ma heads off to the battlefield to build a career for himself. Meanwhile beneath the prosperity, a threat lurks in the background and together with Li Ma, Zhao Yuan Qing she may have to make the ultimate sacrifice to save it…..
Notes:
- We only interrogate people not horses: the character for the “Ma” in Li Ma is actually the character for horse this is why they said horse instead of his name
- Meimei: means younger sister, also can be a term to call your female lover or a close younger female friend depending on the context. Like most far east Asian cultures (like the Korean and the Japanese) people, people may call each other brother and sister if they are well acquainted with each other and not necessarily because they are biologically related.
- 6th grade official: All government ministers are separated into ranks or grades with first/ plus first grade officials holding the most power in court and the 9th grade officials holding the least power.
- Wei Wu: This is a part of a protocol when a trial begins or if someone wishes to report something to the governing minister of that local area. It is believed that by saying wei wu (which means power/prestige/might) is to remind everyone the sacredness and power the law has over the people. According to historians there may be a psychological reason for it as well. This is because they believe the beating those wooden bats on the floor and a group of constables yelling Wei Wu may make those guilty feel oppressed and hence confess faster.
