[Eng] Love and redemption Ep 55

PLEASE DO NOT REUPLOAD MY VIDEOS. If you see them floating around in youtube or facebook or any other places other than here please do help me report these channels or try and direct them here. That will be much appreciated. It will give me more motivation to work and hence faster subs because instead of sitting around trying to calm down from the frustration and stop ranting about people stealing my work I can focus on the important stuff. Thank you!

Synopsis: 1000 years ago, the God of war and the Star of Mosha fought against each other during a bitter battle that almost upturned the way of the world. However at the end of it, both had disappeared mysteriously. 1000 years later, their reincarnations are born into the mortal realm. Chu Xuanji was born into the world lacking the ability to understand or receiving information from the 6 senses leaving her clueless to the world and inept. She befriends Yu Sifeng, the most skilled disciple from the Lize palace who falls in love with her despite the consequences that would occur if he falls in love with a woman. Meanwhile, the demonic realm are preparing themselves to revive the star of Mosha in order to overthrow the Heavenly realm once more and soon the events of the past catches up to them….

Some troubleshooting advice:

  1. I find the best browser to watch this in is Chrome
  2. Clear your cache time to time and close your entire browser after you’ve done so. I find that dailymotion takes up a lot of storage space. You can learn how to do that here: https://www.refreshyourcache.com/en/home/
  3. Also check that the scripts and add blockers. Flashblock and Noscript often blocks dailymotion videos from playing

Commentary from the subber:

Notes:

  1. Drawing blood: Often seen in wuxia dramas when a pact/truce is made between two sects to show their sincerity to carry out what they promised in the agreement. The leaders of both parties would draw some blood, sometimes the blood from both parties are mixed in water and both of them drink it.
  2. The Asuras: They are supposedly genderless, hence can take whichever gender they choose to take. I think the drama took this route instead of what happened in the actual novel which would explain why the Asuras knew the God of War was LHJD and depicted it on the murals. It would also explain why LHJD was able to become a woman after Bailin cut him up and stitched him back up as XJ. Some trivia: In the book, Bailin cut up LHJD so badly that he had to use the crystal used to make the crystal lamp to stitch him back up again. He also modeled his new creation the God of War to look exactly like a female deity who took care of him and had become a stone overlooking the Heavenly pond who the SF in the book had an unrequited love for. They do take that out in the drama though so the SF in the drama is completely in love with XJ there’s no other women.

  3. After these comparisons I see that the drama is better than the book (but I am grateful that the novel exists), because the essence of this beautiful drama was taken from it.

  4. Thanks for the subs and the notes. I can’r believe how cruel Bailin was towards LHJD. And reading the differences from the book, I wished they kept Yinhua and Sifeng’s relationship purely platonic. They were so adorable as master and pet.

  5. Thank you so much for subbing. Thank you for the translator notes and explaining about the Asuras especially 🙂
This SF, XJ and LJD kind of love triangle is so funny!

  6. I”m not sure why I really love this drama a lot. I went in to see it with no expectations. But boy, I was at the edge of my seat all the time. I could not predict what was going to happen, Maybe I have not seen a lot of CDrama. I know I could never watch Ashes of Love because of its aesthetic and YZ’s acting. The CGI is so good. And there are no annoying characters and few flashbacks. The plots are amazingly complex and mind challenging. Most of all, the love arc of SF and XJ just is not your typical tropey that you seldom see in Cdrama. The chemistry is amazing and yes, Cheng Yi, the actor is the most emotive actor I have seen. Thank you for subbing. I’m sad that it will just 4 more episodes.

    1. There were quite a few big differences in the relationships and characters. I’m glad they changed Sifeng in the drama to make him more saintly because in the book he fell in love with XJ at first because her face was exactly like the female deity he had a crush on who didn’t live him back. He went sent on some tribulations as punishment for it. During his final tribulation he saw the god of war/ xuanji and asked the Heavenly Emperor to give him 10 lifetimes to be with her which went horribly wrong because XJ was a crystal/colored glaze beauty who didn’t know about love so instead he spent 10 lifetime to teach her how to fall in love and turn her crystal heart into flesh.
XJ was less talkative she was more like a crystal/crystal glaze statue at the beginning. I am glad they kept most of her bakground the same but then the novel was more of a female centric novel focusing on XJ’s perspective unlike the drama which seems to focus on the relationship and experiences that XJ and SF goes through.
Bai Lin stayed in heaven he didn’t come down to the mortal realm. He and LHJD seems to share some forbidden feelings for each other. It’s not that clear as LHJD never merges with XJ in the book he just kills Bai Lin with his aura.
XJ’s mother doesn’t die in the book and her father is so much better. He pretty much supports XJ’s relationship with SF from the beginning because he thinks SF is powerful enough to be with her even when he discovered SF was a demon. It was their mother who was a little worried about their relationship when everyone found out the Lize palace were all demons. He’s also the most powerful person in the sect apart from XJ which makes more sense as he’s the sect leader and aunt yinghong was XJ’s mentor/teacher.
MY/6th senior was the 2nd male lead in the book but he actually despised XJ and would sometimes forget about her when he was a supposed to care for her but his love for LL is the same. There was no flower demon in the book so LL seems to suffer from Stockholm’s in the book or maybe have some sort of twisted love for WT whilst she was captured by WT. However she still chooses to be with MY who goes and saves her.
Qinglong was actually a stinky woman who doesn’t like to bathe and Liu Yihuan is the one who has a crush on her. Tengshe’s friend was Yinglong.
Little Yinhua doesn’t have romantic feelings for SF she actually has a crush on Tengshe and never takes the human form.
I personally don’t think the book was as angsty but then I did skim read it so there may be other details I missed as well.

      1. Thank you for the subs and this breakdown. When i saw the question i was also curious to know the answer. Some elements i am glad they changed. Little Yinhua in the book sounds better. Minyan in the drama sounds better. And i cannot see SF being that shallow. But now i understand why the drama never gave us that clarity as to why SF loves XJ so much. Or perhaps i haven’t watched it yet. To be honest, for a drama that made my inside hurt so much i only got teary eyed but did not cry. Maybe because even when they were in pain, their love was beautiful.
That said, SF and LHJD got me squealing. I think i am ready to watch the Untamed after this.
Do you plan on subbing the farewell concert?

      3. @Productive Procrastinator: Thank you so much for summarising the differences.
SF sounds superficial at the start. XJ’s dad sounds way better
“Qinglong was actually a stinky woman who doesn’t like to bathe” LMAO!
I like the idea of little yinhua having a crush on Teng She. I would have preferred that over her pointless pioning after XF.
That’s very disturbing there was no flower demon in the book and LL gets Stockholm Syndrome and thinks she is in love with her abuser.

        1. I also thought Yin Hua should get together with Teng She, ha ha.

The flower demon stuff in the drama was horrible to watch and chilling but so well done. In the book I’d say it was definitely Stockholm Syndrome but I wanted to vomit when the author implies after she gets away from WT that she is a little bit in love with the “bad boy”. He’s a cruel, sadistic narcissist, not a bad boy. I think the author has a so-so understanding of psychology. Someone who is traumatized is going to stay in fear if they think that person can still hurt them. So I prefer the ending in the TV series where she kills him and banishes him in the dead city of the devils. My only quibble is that the show leaves off with him falling like he might come back (again), bastard show runners. In the enovel, he goes to Chinese Hell to be tortured for a few thousand years. Chinese Hell is more extreme than Christian Hell, instead of 9 circles, they have 18. Haha.

      4. One of the few nice things in the enovel is that Aunt Hong is XJ’s teacher and the way that she gets this lazy girl to learn was very insightful. I know why they made HC the teacher instead (the theme of him always wanting to control her) but having a female master was a nice touch.

    1. Hi thank Productiveprocrastination for your explaination the relationship between the drama vs the novel.. the most contrast of one is Linglong and Wu Tong. Overall i like the drama relationships more.
By the way there is something i always want to ask, now we are in eps.55, so it safe to ask this, what really happen with Si Feng’s love curse? Did he suffer 3 triggered poison incidents or is only 2? If it is only 2, when exactly the 2nd part? Is it when Si Feng suffer the blow from Xuanji and the elders sects who attack his shifu/father but Si Feng blocked them? But then when Si Feng get stab from Xuanji in the Shaoyang barrier after Haochen died, and also what she said that she regret meeting him, i think it is most hurtfull one than the other incidents that triggered the love poisons. What is your take on this? And when compare it in the novel, is it the same with what happen in the drama?
I can’t thank you enough for all your efforts in subtitling this beautiful drama..

      1. Only 2. The 2nd one was when he was caught off guard when XJ tried to kill his father. Honestly I agree with you. Compared to what happened when HC died I don’t think it was that hurtful. He almost suffered another triggering in ep 44 when XJ said she wants to cut off all ties but he managed to suppress it. Yes it was two again in the book can’t remember when it was though because I did skim read it, skipping parts of it because honestly it wasn’t really that unique and I wasn’t able to be hooked in some bits and not one of the author’s best works (in my opinion). I assumed that was why people were so shocked as to how well received it was and one of the rare incidences where most people agree that the drama was better than the book.
Lol the book did have a few BL shades to it too. YL was obsessed with WZQ in the book and had a room full of masks of WZQ’s face.

        1. Thank you very much for your explanation! Finally i find an enlightment.. LOL
So the drama really did that different from the novel. Yes good job for the drama writer who succeeded in creating a more interesting story.
LOL at Yuelong’s obsession.. By the way who is Yinglong (Tengshe friend in the novel)? I don’t remember there is a character named Yinglong in the drama.
